Many women experience pelvic floor defects that limit their ability to do the things they enjoy doing-from card playing to running and dancing or even playing with the children. When your quality of life is affected, it is time to seek help.
The pelvic floor is what we call the muscular and connective tissue structures that support a woman’s internal organs. Defects in the pelvic floor can result in bowel and bladder dysfunction, as well as pelvic organ prolapse- a hernia of the organs through the vagina. Women with these conditions can have symptoms of urine leakage or trouble emptying their bladder. They may have trouble emptying their rectum or problems with stool leakage. They may have discomfort resulting from tissue prolapsing through the vagina. Urogynecologists are surgical specialists trained to address these problems.
These problems may seem embarrassing and some women may have trouble discussing these issues. We want you to know that these issues are common even if people don’t want to talk about them. There are many different therapeutic options and we can help you find one that works for you.
